15:45 – 16:15 Speaker: Sanjay Charavanapavan, Security Consultant, Enterprise Arcitect, Project Manager Presents “The good, the bad and the plain ridiculous. Taking a measured approach to security“.

Sanjay is a recognised industry expert in the areas of enterprise IT architecture and information security – backed by over 18 years of broad industry experience. He has a strong technical background coupled with both a strong consulting and business background. He has been certified and has practiced information security since 2001. His security expertise extends from technical product knowledge and systems architecture to enterprise security governance and management practices. His architectural background includes deep speciality in the areas of technology and security architecture. His experience also includes the design and implementation oversight of core insurance and banking platforms, a variety of business applications, enterprise IT management systems and a variety of security systems.


He has project managed large and complex initiatives ranging from implementations involving multiple technologies and technical teams to management consulting-based initiatives. Through his career he has worked for both financial institutions and IT companies and as a consultant engaged across a wide range of industries and several governments. Over recent years, his primary engagements involve strategic advisory to CXOs and boards.


He holds a number of industry certifications, is currently completing an MBA and is a member of several professional bodies including ISC2, ISACA and OCEG. He currently serves as director on the ISACA SA Chapter board and has been involved on the board since 2008.


Sanjay runs a specialised strategic consultancy company – Excellenta (Pty) Ltd. In addition to serving clients across industry sectors, Sanjay also contracts to Gartner.


He spends his off time with family, traveling and on a number of adventure sports. He and his wife are also involved in a variety of community development initiatives.
